Embedded Studio licensing conditions
SEGGER Embedded Studio offers flexible licensing options for individual developers, teams, and organizations. Commercial licenses are available for different target device families and CPU architectures, with options for single users and development teams. All Embedded Studio licenses are perpetual, with no annual subscription required.
Licensing options
The standard licensing model for Embedded Studio is SEGGER's Commercial-use License (CUL), which allows the software to be used in commercial development environments. Depending on the requirements, users can choose between portable single-user and multi-user licenses.
For non-commercial use, Embedded Studio is available free of charge under SEGGER's Friendly License.
License activation
Once you have obtained an Embedded Studio license, you can activate it in just a few steps using the built-in License Manager.
Your activation key is provided by email or as a download. Copy the key to your clipboard before starting the activation process. For J-Link-locked licenses, make sure the associated J-Link is connected via USB.
1. Open the License Manager
Open the Embedded Studio License Manager at Tools -> License Manager
2. Enter your activation key
Select Activate Embedded Studio, paste your activation key, and click Install License
3. Start using Embedded Studio
Your license is activated, and Embedded Studio is ready for commercial use.
Device-based licenses
In cooperation with selected silicon vendors, SEGGER offers free or discounted Embedded Studio licenses for commercial development with specific devices. These device-based licenses are available for supported device families from participating manufacturers.
Free licenses
For the RISC-V-based GD32VF103 device series.
Free licenses for the RISC-V-based HPM6000 device series.
For Cortex-M-based nRF51, nRF52, nRF53, nRF54, and nRF91 device series.
For SemiDrive’s Cortex-M- and Cortex-R-based E3 and D device series.
Discounted licenses
Discounted licenses are available for purchase directly through SEGGER. Request a quotation and specify the device for which you need a license. Discounts are currently available for:
RISC-V based MCU series (R9A02G021) - 50% discount on Embedded Studio for Renesas.

Support and updates
Embedded Studio can be downloaded and updated at any time.
Commercial licenses include access to all Embedded Studio versions released during the purchased Support and Update period. These versions can be used indefinitely, even after the period expires.
To use newer versions released after the Support and Update period, an extension must be purchased. No renewal is required to continue using previously covered versions.
