    Extra-large memory

    Flasher Pro XL can program devices with up to 2 GB of memory (even in standalone mode). This expanded memory allows it to store and manage multiple large firmware images, enabling use in mass customization production of complex embedded systems with high-resolution GUIs.

    High-speed flash programming

    Flasher Pro XL achieves flash programming speeds that approach the theoretical maximum, often exceeding 95 % efficiency and surpassing 1 MB/s. For MCUs that allow memory access while running, Flasher Pro XL’s "turbo mode" minimizes overhead by downloading and programming simultaneously, enabling unmatched speeds.

    Flexible control

    Programming rich user interfaces in complex systems

    The Flasher Pro XL can program the large data sets required for modern, feature-rich interfaces. These application often involve high-resolution color displays such as those found in in-vehicle infotainment systems, ultrasonic devices, or respirators. Graphics are not generated in the devices themselves; rather, they are stored as huge image files. Flasher Pro XL enables rapid flash programming for these large assets, ensuring efficient updates without creating production bottlenecks

    Multi-image storage for mass customization

    Mass customization combines the flexibility of  custom-made products with the efficiency and  unit costs associated with mass production. Different product variants usually require different firmware versions. Flasher Pro XL production programmers have enough memory to host multiple firmware images and microcontroller configurations simultaneously. This allows the universal flash programmer to easily  switch  tasks via the programming interface, streamlining products of diverse product lines.


    How Flasher Pro XL works

    Just like Flasher Pro, Flasher Pro XL writes firmware to a device's non-volatile memory, verifies the contents, and provides immediate feedback through LEDs, software, or hardware interfaces. It connects to target devices via standard interfaces (such as JTAG, SWD or UART), and it operates in either PC-controlled or standalone mode.

    In PC-controlled mode, flash programming is managed directly from a host computer using SEGGER tools such as J‑Flash. In standalone mode, Flasher Pro uses preloaded firmware images stored in its internal memory. Programming can be triggered through the press of a button; a TTL signal; or remotely via USB, UART, RS232, or Ethernet. Since feedback can be read directly over host interfaces, software is not specifically required for evaluation.

    Flasher Deployer

    Flasher Deployer is designed to centrally manage and distribute programming images across a network. It is ideal for production environments where consistent image deployment across multiple Flasher units, regardless of location, is essential for maintaining version control.

    U-Flash

    J-Flash

    Flasher SDK

    If a new device is not yet supported by a Flasher, users can add support themselves using the Flasher Software Development Kit. Available in the Web Shop, it includes all documentation, examples, and tools needed to implement programming for custom targets.     Programming FPGAs and CPLDs

    Production departments faced with the task of programming FPGAs or CPLDs do not require the Flasher SDK, as Flasher programmers can program FPGAs and CPLDs using the Flasher BitStreamer.

    Cross-platform software

    As a multi-platform solution, Flasher Pro comes with SEGGER's Flasher Software and Documentation Package for Windows, Linux, and macOS. It provides the tools and resources necessary for configuring, managing, and using Flasher Pro effectively. It also includes flash loaders for all supported devices, including a wide range of target microcontrollers. The list of supported manufacturers, families and devices, and SoCs provides a detailed overview.

    Future-proofing included

    The software package can be downloaded free of charge, and it includes future software and firmware updates as well as all new flash loaders for target devices added in the future.

    Customer support

    Flasher Pro XL comes with one year (12 months) of Basic Support. Beyond that, SEGGER's Extended Coverage gives users the option to extend the hardware warranty and Basic Support for one additional year (12 months) or two additional years (24 months). These options are only available at the time of purchase, either through the Web Shop or upon request; adding coverage at a later date is not possible.

    SEGGER's mounting brackets provide a reliable solution for securely fastening Flasher in-circuit programmers. Designed for stability and ease of use, these brackets ensure an organized and professional setup. Mounting brackets are available directly from the SEGGER shop.

    Alternatively, SEGGER offers users the option to 3D print mounting brackets themselves. A downloadable ZIP file is provided, containing a STEP file for modifications, an STL file ready for 3D printing, and a PDF file with detailed dimensions.


    FAQ

    What is the maximum voltage that can be handled by the galvanic isolation of the Ethernet interface?

    The Ethernet data lines are galvanically isolated in accordance with IEEE 802.3, tested at 1500 Vrms for one minute.
    This isolation applies only to the data lines, not to the Ethernet shield, which has a direct electrical connection to the USB shield and a resistive and capacitive coupling to probe ground (GND).
    For effective galvanic isolation, an unshielded twisted pair (UTP) Ethernet cable should be used.

    When should I choose the Flasher Pro XL over the standard Flasher Pro?

    You should choose the XL version if your application involves large firmware files or extensive data sets. While the standard Flasher Pro has 128 MB of memory, the Flasher Pro XL expands this to 2 GB (16x the capacity). This makes it the correct choice for embedded systems running Linux, Android, or Windows IoT, or for devices containing high-resolution GUI assets and map data.

    Can I store multiple different firmware versions on the device at once?

    Yes. The 2 GB memory capacity allows you to host multiple firmware images and microcontroller configurations simultaneously. This is ideal for "Mass Customization," where you need to switch between different product variants on the production line without reconfiguring the programmer or reconnecting to a PC.

    Does the Flasher PRO XL support eMMC and SD card programming?

    Yes. In addition to standard flash programming, the Flasher Pro XL is well-suited for preparing eMMC memories and SD cards often used in high-end systems. It integrates with SEGGER’s Storage Image Creator to support writing exFAT and FAT file system images directly during production, ensuring your OS-based devices are ready to boot immediately.

    Does the larger memory size affect programming speed?

    No. The Flasher Pro XL retains the high-speed performance of the Pro series, achieving speeds that approach the theoretical maximum of the target device (often surpassing 1 MB/s). It also features Turbo Mode to minimize overhead by downloading and programming simultaneously, ensuring that even gigabyte-sized images are programmed as efficiently as possible.
