    Overview

Flasher Portable PLUS is a rugged handheld programmer for updating microcontroller firmware. It is optimized for in-field use in harsh environments, supports both on-chip and external flash memory, and works with a variety of target interfaces (including JTAG, SWD, FINE, and SPD). It is highly portable and operates without an external power supply, making it ideal for situations where traditional programming methods aren’t feasible.

With a long-lasting battery, ample storage for multiple configurations, and an intuitive interface, Flasher Portable PLUS ensures that firmware updates are efficient, secure, and hassle-free. It also offers multi-platform support, with setup and control software for Linux, macOS, and Windows.

    Key features

Packed with advanced functions, Flasher Portable PLUS provides technicians with the flexibility to perform firmware updates on the go. Product highlights include long battery life for extended use in the field, support for a variety of CPU cores and interfaces, and an intuitive push-button interface that makes managing multiple configurations straightforward.

    Battery-powered operation

Flasher Portable PLUS runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that ensures up to 10 hours of continuous use. In other words, it is perfect for field applications in which reliance on an external power supply is out of the question.

    Up to 99 firmware images

With 128 MB of internal memory, Flasher Portable PLUS can store as many as 99 firmware images, allowing technicians to easily manage multiple versions or configurations on a single device.

    Intuitive user display

An intuitive GUI on the 1.8" screen ensures easy access to firmware information, provides direct feedback, and conveys important details about project selection, programming progress, and status.

    Use cases

With the flexibility required to tackle a variety of firmware-update scenarios, Flasher Portable PLUS meets the needs of technicians in the field. Whether the job is servicing remote devices or working out custom solutions for in-field branding and security, Flasher Portable Plus is a reliable tool for highly diverse applications.

    Field-service programming for non-networked devices

Flasher Portable PLUS is ideal for servicing devices that cannot be easily connected to a network, such as wind turbines, remote equipment, or other industrial machinery located in hard-to-reach places. In the event of a firmware issue, a technician can quickly apply patches without a PC or access to a power supply.

These capabilities are particularly useful for devices with inaccessible bootloaders or for situations in which network updates are impractical or impossible. Flasher Portable PLUS is lightweight, portable, and durable. In short: It is an essential tool for field technicians working under challenging conditions.

Exclusive, secure flashing for in-field services

Flasher Portable PLUS is highly beneficial for companies that want to maintain control over firmware updates while reinforcing their corporate identity. Service technicians can carry a customized version of the device, branded with company logos, colors, and slogans. This not only ensures a professional, cohesive image but also enhances trust with customers.

Additionally, Flasher Portable PLUS supports Authorized Flashing, which limits the number of permissible programming cycles per device, providing added security to protect intellectual property in the event of device loss or unauthorized access.

    How Flasher Portable PLUS works

Flasher Portable PLUS connects to a variety of target devices through a 20-pin interface, with adapters available for different connectors. Once connected, it programs the target microcontroller’s flash memory, either through JTAG, SWD, FINE, or SPD interfaces, depending on the target. With an extensive library of supported CPU cores, including ARM, Cortex, PowerPC, and Renesas RX, it is capable of handling a wide range of devices.

Programming speeds can range from 30 KB/s to 1 MB/s, depending on the target hardware; and, for even faster updates, Flasher Portable PLUS supports simultaneous downloading and programming in turbo mode. As a standalone unit that does not require a computer or external power supply, Flasher Portable PLUS is particularly suited to in-field scenarios. The large amount of internal storage and the user friendly LCD interface make it easy to control and monitor the firmware update process, ensuring technicians can carry out their tasks quickly and accurately.

    Customizability

Flasher Portable PLUS can be fully customized to accomodate company branding. When working in the field, service technicians are often an organization's metaphorical face, meaning that company tools, clothing, etc., should ideally communicate an organization's commitment to quality, reliability, and customer service. That is why SEGGER offers several customization options, including:

    • Injection molding in company colors
    • Fascia branding with corporate logos and slogans
    • Customized splash-screen content
    • Other corporate design elements

All customization work is handled by SEGGER, meaning the customer needs only to choose from the available options. Additionally, volume pricing is available, making it possible to equip hundreds or even thousands of service technicians with a branded, high-quality tool at a competitive price.
