SEGGER tools gain deeper integration in JetBrains CLion with AI-assisted debugging
CLion's newest release introduces AI-powered debugging tools. According to JetBrains, its new AI skill for hard-fault debugging uses dedicated tooling to automatically decode fault registers and trace issues back to their source on Cortex-M devices, including targets connected via J-Link.
The combination of CLion's AI capabilities and J-Link's fast, reliable access to embedded targets enables AI-assisted development to go beyond code generation. Developers can use information obtained from the actual hardware to analyze faults, identify their underlying causes, and accelerate the process of finding and fixing bugs.
"Embedded development is where AI agent has to understand more than code -- it needs real evidence from the target," says Artemy Pestretsov, Head of C/C++ Ecosystem at JetBrains. "CLion brings SEGGER’s J-Link, Ozone, and SystemView workflows closer to the development environment while giving agents access to real debugger context. This moves agentic AI usage beyond code generation toward hardware-aware engineering: investigating faults, reasoning from the state of the device, and helping developers reach a verified fix faster."
"J-Link is about giving developers fast, reliable access to their hardware, whichever IDE they use," says Dirk Akemann, Head of Technical Marketing at SEGGER. "With CLion’s support for J-Link and direct access to Ozone and SystemView, developers can move easily from development and debugging to in-depth system analysis. CLion’s new agentic capabilities also show how AI can go beyond code generation and help developers investigate problems directly on real hardware."
J-Link supports more than 15,000 microcontrollers and SoCs across a broad range of architectures from over 120 silicon vendors and integrates with more than 35 leading IDEs and development environments. Its ultra-fast flash programming speeds and broad device support give developers fast, reliable access to their target hardware. Together, J-Link, Ozone, and SystemView give CLion users access to SEGGER’s debugging and system analysis ecosystem directly from their development environment.
