SEGGER adds J-Link support for new Renesas RX 32-bit MCU

SEGGER Microcontroller today announced J-Link support for Renesas’ new RX600 series.

All that’s needed to use J-Link with a Renesas RX600 series MCU is a regular J-Link and an adapter-cable. The required software can be downloaded from SEGGER’s website and used free of charge. The adapter-cable can be purchased from SEGGER separately or bundled with J-Link.
J-Link allows fast download and setting an unlimited number of breakpoints in RAM and internal flash memory. This complements the 8 hardware event breakpoints on the  RX600.
All features of the RX family, such as the advanced on-chip trace logic with buffer and real-time communication methods are supported. The J-Link software for RX is compatible to Renesas' E1 emulator and therefore supports both the IAR Embedded Workbench as well as the HEW environment.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to provide the first independent emulator for Renesas RX. We believe that RX is going to be a very successful family of microcontrollers due to the very efficient core, which achieves more Mips/MHz than competing architectures and due to Renesas’ unique Monos Flash technology, allowing zero wait state operation up to 100MHz,” says Dirk Akemann, Marketing Manager at SEGGER.
“Segger has been a very important tools partner to Renesas for many years, and we are very happy to have been able to work with them in the development of debug emulator support for the RX architecture. I have been very impressed with how fast Segger has developed J-Link support for RX. Their technical excellence means that Renesas RX customers now have access to state of the art debugging tools,” said David Noverraz, Tools Marketing Manager at Renesas. “We know from previous experience that they are highly appreciated for their J-Link family of emulators, and would be able to combine the innovative RX design features with their tools to make a world-leading product.
We feel that the RX family provides world-class technical performance and features that will attract engineers looking for tomorrow’s microcontrollers and we believe the Segger J-Link solution for the RX product family continues their position as a leading independent tool vendor for Renesas microcontrollers.”

I used to think that floating-point was not for Embedded Systems. Too slow, too much code overhead and rounding is always a problem. It turns out that...
